In a unique and exciting collaboration, internationally renowned Puerto Rican artist, Rafael Trelles, will produce a graphic edition of his original painting Palma Sagrada to mark the launch of the new cultural platform Alegría, which is inspired by the cultural richness of his native Puerto Rico. The limited edition of 150 copies will be numbered and personally signed by the artist. The oil painting Palma Sagrada was part of the artist’s most recent solo exhibition entitled Axis Mundi held at the prestigious October Gallery in London, England. The exhibition is a collection of large format paintings that address the theme of the tree as a mythological figure common to the ancient cultures of Africa, America, and Europe. Trelles’ paintings celebrate the trees and palms of his native Puerto Rico. In the forests conceived by the painter, human beings appear integrated into the different realms of nature. Spiritual figures emerge as silent witnesses, bearers of a critical intelligence in the face of the growing challenges of climate change and species extinction that affect us all.
